Born in Denpasar, Bali, Luna Maya made her debut as a professional model in 1999 when she was 16 years old. Currently, she is one of the most popular models/actresses in Indonesia, featured in numerous movies and TV programs. She was awarded the best leading actress in the Indonesian Film Festival (2006) and is active in charity and social activities. Through her efforts as a goodwill ambassador of the UN World Food Program, WFP, she has raised funds to help save the victims of the tsunami that hit the coast of Sumatra.
